Somaliland was a British Protectorate with treaty enshrined borders entirely separating it from Ethiopia, Southern Italian Somalia and northerly French Somalia, now known as Djibouti. Somaliland won independence from the British Crown in 1960. Hence the name of this web site : " Somaliland 1960"
